87-740 AW72L overdrive issue. Replace, repair, disable???

Thanks for clarification on short vs open.

All else has been tested and cleared. Relay, switch, light etc.

With the connector under the car disconnected I measured voltage on the wire coming from inside car. Got a consistant 11.7 volt.

But, when I install vom in circuit, I got know voltage until I moved the wire at the solenoid. I did that repeatedly to make sure.

Then I secured wire in a position to maintain electrial flow.
Last night od would not operate. However, wife drove car this morning and it operated flawlessly.

I'm assuming its a wiring problem where the wire abuts the solenoid.
Can this be repaired.
