Time well spent this weekend using a motorcycle cable luber kit on choke cables. Man, those things work like budda now. Was a joy to fire up this AM. If you haven`t freed up and adjusted your choke cables, take the time. You`ll be glad you did. Only took me a year after I got the lube kit to do mine!
Should the inline fuel filter be before or after the fuel pump? Opinions and rationale please. Mine is between the pump and tank, but most seem to be after the pump. Which is more important keeping tank debris out of the pump, or pump debris (if any) out of the carbs. I`ve got a Pierburg pump on mine.
I`ve been noticing a new noise. More noticeable when cold. I think it`s emanating from the tranny area, but not sure. It is melodious, at times harmonious, not unlike the usual M40 sounds when going up thru the gears. It starts about 55 MPH and fades out about 62 MPH. Not rough or metallic like a bearing. Will vary with load. If I take the car out of gear and coast in neutral, I don`t hear it. My throwout bearing makes intermittent noise (not the same) when really cold, but rapidly goes away after a little warm up. Running GL-4 75W-90 gear lube in the tranny. Has about 140,000 miles on it. How long does the M40 usually live? I`ve been told I have unusually acute hearing. I don`t miss much and hear a lot of things I don`t want to hear! Have y`all ever had a throwout bearing do that? If I had to guess, I would pick gear noise, but I cannot determine if it is pathological or not.
As always, thanks to all.
