Bogus ball joint 200

BH,

I don't mean to sound insulting, but I think you were mistaking the cup for the rubber boot and here's why...

When I ordered my ball joints from FCP (as others here have suggested) I received the MOOG unit (not to be confused with Frank Zappa's daughter, Moon Unit). I'll add that FCP lists the part as TRW or Meyle, whatever they have in stock. I received the MOOG. Guess that's what was in stock.

It came with a plastic/rubber cap over the threaded spindle. This protects (during shipping) the rubber boot which you would have happily found if you'd have opened the sealed plastic bag.

Trust me.

It was not missing anything.

It includes "mounting hardware" and that is 3 bolts and 4 nuts.

And I'll admit, when I first got mine, I opened the box, saw it and went "what the..?" until I took an extra second. The cap just lifts right off. I bought TRW outer tie ends and they came with this protective cap too.

I'd go back and get any one that looked good that they could get tomorrow, cause ya ain't gonna get it from FCP tomorrow unless you spend $ in shipping for what they wanted for just the part alone from the dealer...

As for the Volvo ball joint you described from the dealer, I've purchased one of those too and the mounting hardware included the the plate (strut anchor) that the threaded part of the BJ goes into. As you will find out, that plate gets mounted to the bottom of the strut tube with four "one-time" use bolts.
I recommend this full kit if this is the first new BJ you know of going onto your vehicle. That's the "play it safe, spend the $$ because it's a 20 year old part at this point" route.

Otherwise, you're reusing those bolts and that plate and the old BJ is one stubborn SOB to get off of that plate.

Most shops you'll find reuse the bolts. I did on one side. Good luck. Jason
