Unknown indicator light - maintenance prompt? 900 1994

I just bought my first 940 wagon in the fall, so I don't have much experience with this model. Not long ago an unlabeled idiot light switched on, and I don't know what to make of it. It's just a red dot, in the lower left corner of the instrument panel, near the outside air temperature display. Is this dot prompting me to get an oil change or some other routine maintenance? If so, how can I reset it? If it's not this, got any other ideas?

Tangentially, I was surprised to see that the car's original maintenance guide booklet suggests oil changes only every 10K miles. Should I take this seriously?
