The MSD6 unit really does smooth the idle and the acceleration out; the difference was immediately obvious after I installed one on my 65' 220 with B20.

It makes the engine feel like it's from a modern car.

Put a Pertronix unit in too, if you haven't already. Don't forget to re-gap the plugs, and install some really good quality spiral wound plug wires.
