240 Kickdown cable replacement question 200 1985

Trying to help a buddy get his 85 245 going.

I have a new cable from HCP Groton. The trans pan is off, and I read the 700/900 FAQ's.

It looks like the lower transmission body needs to be removed, but that is not what is indicated in the FAQs.

I have been told there are many springs, and small balls that regulate the flow that could pop out if one was not careful, so I am scared a bit to try this ...but I will if I can get a bit of guidance here.

SO ...is it necessary to remove the lower portion/body of the tranny to replace the cable ..or, if not - what am I missing that I cannot see it.

Thanks for your help.
