B23F - Overheated now plugs are wet 200 1983

How likely is coolant temp sensor to ECU failure after an overheating episode? My '83 B23F suffered a major overheating after top rad hose split (before I bought it). I got it to start yesterday after replacing distributor cap and rotor and a thorough spark plug cleaning and regap, however, only for a few seconds. It ran briefly and very rough, then would not restart at all. Plugs are once again very wet and smell of gas.
I plan this weekend to take a look at the timing belt and the fuel pressure regulator for problems. I was told by the previous owner that it ran great before overheating, so could that point to the coolant temp sensor as a culprit for flooding since it is mounted on the block and would have have gotten pretty hot during overheating and loss of coolant?
Thanks, Jim
