Button on Back of Instrument Cluster 700

On the back of the instrument clusters for my 1988 740 and 1988 780 there is a black button located behind and to the top left of where the back of the speedo is connected to the white plastic part of the cluster housing and the circuit board. As far as I can tell, when the button is pushed and held, it appears to press against a pin that connects in some way to the odometer. It doesn’t seem to reset anything, just maybe stop the pin from turning or moving – not really sure. Anybody have any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks –
