DIESEL - no uphill power at all?

An important piece of information would be whether this episode was accompanied by alot of exhaust smoke (the dark soot kind) or by no/minimal exhaust smoke.

No exhaust smoke would indicate a low fuel condition, lots of soot would indicate a lack of air. That would help narrow the likely suspects.

Perhaps the technician got the timing off on the pump.

Of course, it could be something else (like the transmission).
