'89 B230 distributor rotor: stuck on, need tips before I break something.... 200

'Gotta be a better way with these rotors. Tune-up time, rotor's been on there a while and will not pull straight up and off. Tried warming car up then pulling; no go. I hate to begin tapping it upward with small weight or hammer, but it looks like that's the next bet unless any of you have a way of dealing with this.

Tips appreciated; I don't want to harm the distributor or plastic cover that sits over the distributor body.

Then.........what do you guys do, (or put the new rotor), that prevents this misery the next time?

Thanks, Dennis
