Ignition wiring harness: let the sleeping dog lie? 200

My son, a college student, drives an '83 240 stick wagon w/240K miles. It's been well maintained it's entire life and runs well.

His ignition wiring harness is pretty ugly. The wires are stiff and inflexible, and the insulation has come off in places. I figure I have several options:

- do nothing. It runs great;
- tape it where the insulation has come off;
- buy a new harness from Volvo, which I'm sure will be $100s;
- find a used harness;
- pull the old one off and try to rehab it, i.e. cut out the bad spots and crimp in new wire.

Opinions?
