No sealant on ECT sensor threads

Well, I tore the intake back off, removed and cleaned both of the coolant sensors, reinstalled everything with a new gasket and.... although it seemed like it ran a bit better (accelerated better), It is still throwing both codes for bad or faulty sensor. Also, it seems to be idling along and will suddenly cut out start to die and then regain itself to normal idle speed. I disconnected the battery to hopefully erase stored memory in the ecu. When I reconnected and restarted, the check engine light did go out but then it cut out again and died and when I restarted, check engine light came back on. Perhaps there is a short somewhere? running out of ideas fer sure
