Bizarre crankcase pressure stuff 700 1987

Hi guys,

I wanted to share some weird things I found while taking out my oil breather box.

First, the thing isn't clogged. I can blow air through it, plugging different holes with my fingers. It's pretty dirty, though. I'll put it back in without further internal cleaning.

I took off my accordion hose from the AMM (still loose on the other side; TB's still off) and looked inside. OIL! and while in place had been dripping out a loose hose clamp, onto some vacuum hoses and electrical wires. Gaah! The oil inside is the consistency of hot caramel. Thankfully it didn't reach the AMM (I made sure).

Some of the vacuum hoses around the intake are not clogged, but compromised by deposits of rock hard goo.

Here's the low-down on the PO's history with the PCV system: The rear main seal blew the same time the tranny went, so they replaced the seal and the flame trap and sent her on her way. I think that the crankcase pressure blew oil up into the whole vacuum system at that point, and has been sitting for the last eight or so years.

I think there were so many vacuum leaks, as well as a compromised flame trap (that I replaced, and then soon after I observed too much pressure in the crankcase) mitigated the pressure caused by the funk in the intake and old flame trap.

Ack! Now I gotta go clean my accordion intake hose, and put it all back together.

Thanks!

Ari
