V50 TRAILER LIGHT POWER CONVERTERS S90-V90 2006

I have a 2006 V50 and need to connect the trailer lights to the car. The part from Volvo is about $190. Other vendors have TRAILER LIGHT POWER CONVERTERS that take power straight from the battery for a lot less, for example see this site, has a kit for $26.95

Does anyone have experience with using a non Volvo kit to connect the trailer lights to a late model Volvo that has the small wiring?
