Steering clunks 200 1985

I'm pretty sure it's an obvious thing to some, but I'm covering all bases here.

The info:

I have an 85 245. 214K on it. Power steering.

My front drivers side tire/wheel/steering makes a "clunk" sound when I turn sharp left or right, only when I go slow. I've had a similar issue with a Suburban, where you could hear a clunk at the end of a turn, like a ball joint was in need of replacement.

I know it could be the whole set-up (210K miles of use) or something simple like the shocks (which I already know I need to replace eventually).

Next weekend I hope to tackle this, at least in the sense I'm going to take off the front tires and check it out. While I think it'd be wiser to replace all parts (if I can), if I only need to replace like a ball joint or a tie rod, would it be ok to just replace them?

Thanks
