Vacuum leak in dash? Strange symptoms 700 1987

Hi folks,

I listened at my dash after I started the car - just a slight whoosh (tiny leak?). Then I switched to defrost, heard the vacuum suck the valve to the other setting... and my idle jumped from a steady 950 to an unsteady 1200! And a loud steady whoosh from the vent.

I really don't know much about the vacuum system... any help here would be welcome.

I know I need to other stuff, like replace my heater valve and reset my TPS... but I haven't had a spare moment in the last 48 hours (and not for the next 48, either!)

Thanks!

Ari
