Strong smell of gasoline suddenly 200 1987

Novice here, Ive been so happy with my 240 wag, but just the past few days ive been noticing a strong smell of fuel inside the car while driving and i cant figure it out. I havent noticed anything else different. We have no noticable leaks, nothing to indicate a problem. What can i check myself. Would a spark plug cleaning or change make a difference? thats what someone suggested i do. any info at all would be most helpful! thanks.
