What is the difference between a 760 and a 740

I might buy a 1990 765 this weekend. The car had the B230FT in it so it seems very similar to the 90 745 ti that I had. Fron end is different and so is the dash. Should I hold out of a 940 perhaps or if this car is in good shape, would it be a nice brick to own? I have noticed a lot of m47 at the wreaking yards, so a eventual dream might be to drop a m47 in it.
