shifter question 1800

Hey , I have a question , where the shifter sits into the housing ( ball socket with pivot pins )on top of the transmission , are both notches supposed to be the same size as the pins because the right side in my opinion is worn at an angle . I`m just wondering if the extension housing top is just like the short top where both notches are the same size as the pivot pins ? If so has anyone ever built this up with aluminum rod and a torch (Alumiweld rods) ? I always have a problem explaining things , hope this makes sense . Thanks for any comments . Larry
