Bentley Step 6 is wrong 200

1) "My question on this note that in the book they tell you to disconnect a spark plug and then to ground it but they don't specify which plug. How does the spark plug get any power since the connector from the distributor is disconnected accordingly to Fig. 15?"

Any plug will get (spark power) if the jumper test*** in Bentley Step 6 (substituting for the Hall sensor) is applied to a good ICU with no harness or connector problems.

*** Bentley error: The spark/pump action should be when the jumper is removed, NOT when the connection is made.

2) "I also checked terminal 7(I assume that you are referring to Fig. 14 in the book-the diagram of the ignition unit plug) and I got 5.82 Volts."

That ~5V is normal ICU "logic" voltage at IgnCU pin 7. I believe Goatman was referring to the gray firewall harness plug. As for the +12V thru that connector, I would first look for it at it's "primary" destination: Coil terminal 15, with Key On. I wouldn't be looking "upstream" unless Coil 15 is dead.

NOTE: I also would not remove the ICU connector unnecessarily, as those terminals have a reputation for poor contact if disturbed. You can "backprobe" at the connector if needed. Also, that ICU is one of the most rock-solid parts on the car.
