89 244 - Bad AC Thermo Switch?

So fuse 12 keeps shorting out because of some electrical problem in the AC. Initially, it would not blow the fuse so long as I kept the AC thermo switch ont the "0" so it was off. Then the other day it started shorting even with it off (i.e. the AC is still trying to come on). When I pulled the center cover back to look at the thermo switch, I noticed that the plastic covering for the two spades of green wire that connect to the switch were significantly melted. I figured this meant that the switch itself was the problem? Am I right or could it be something else causing that amount of heat there where the spade and the switch connect? Any help appreciated.
