Engine compartment light 200

Why did Volvo stop putting lights under the hoods? Neither my '93 nor my father's '91 240 has an underhood light, but the '82 I owned and the '86 I am now parting out have had them.

I have appropriated the Hella light for my '93, cleaned it up, acid dipped the switch (which wouldn't work beforehand for all the oxidation) and it looks like new. Tomorrow I will install.

So, any speculation as to why later model 240's did not get the light? Was it a poor light, of limited use? Do any of you use them/like them?

'93 244: 'A' cam 4 deg. advanced, 25/22 sways, custom heim endlinks, poly bushings, and a lot more styling customization than I care to recount.
