Tracking down rattles... 700 1987

Hi folks,

Here my lack of Volvo knowledge has me at a disadvantage. I need some help.

740GLE with AW70L. Very sweet after a tranny service, and serious tuneup/timing belt. There's still some scary noise with certain speed/rpm combinations (reproducible, too), and wondered, now that I can maybe rule my tranny out, if it's a sympathetic vibration.

The noise that bothers me is a rattle when idling in a drive gear, or an intermittent chitter when going uphill. My passengers tell me that they can feel it in the passenger footwell floor, so... I fixed my broken plastic skidpad. The noise is still there.

There's a second, smaller plastic shield under the AC condenser. I tried repairing it too, but I think it may be the source of my continuing rattle. Should I try to fix it more, or toss it, or try to find a replacement? I can't find it in any catalogs.

I may have missed a heat shield. I'll get it onto ramps again and look.

Thanks for any input.

Ari
