A 'load leveler' is nearly mandatory, as the angle needs to change several times as it comes up. It is also a near necessity to have the front wheels up in the air at least somewhat, otherwise the tail of the trans might hit the ground before the motor is angled properly to come out (that may be an issue only with an M41).
The first few inches are pretty snug - the motor tan't come up much without the bellhousing bumping the tunnel, it can't go forward much without the oil pan bumping the crossmember, and it can't tilt much without the head hitting the firewall. But with the right combination of tilt and lift, it will *just barely* clear everything.
Don't forget to take off the ground strap over on the right side - between the body and a bellhousing bolt. And don't forget to take the speedo cable off. Maybe take a picture of the clutch linkage, it can cease to make sense once taken apart. Soak the nuts that hold the hood on well in advance with pblaster - they generally are stuck tight and you might spent as much time fighting with them as pulling the engine.
