fuel line measurements questions 200

I've seen some post lately about leaks developing in the rubber fuel hoses and deceided its time to replace/upgrade. I figure old rubber hoses and the addition of ethanol is taking its toll.

I pulled the hoses off of a 1986 240 to make some measurements. The large hose that goes from the sending unit to fuel pump is ~3' and has an inner diameter of ~.46". The smaller return line is ~1.5' and has an inner diameter of .31".

I would like to use new e85 rated Goodyear hose sold at AZ for $4 a foot.

Does a 3' section of 1/2" hose and 1.5' section of 5/16" hose sound right for replacing these 2 rubber hoses?

Why does the 1986 have a 3rd hose. On my 1990 its capped.
