Hi,
I have 1991 940SE and has exact same symptom. It has been going on for more than a year. Replaced/cleaned or swapped every part ( I do not want to list as list will be too long) as I have also 1994 940turbo, but every effort went in vain. The only thing that has not been done is the valve adjustment.
At idle car shakes badly but otherwise has full power and runs great. If you happen to find the issue please post back and I have not given up yet and if I could find the solution I will post here.
