Missing Overdrive relay. 200 1983

Well,

I bought a 1983 Volvo 245DL signt unseen in Texas and drove it home to Ohio. The previous owner lied/didn't know, and told me the overdrive was working. Whoops. That was some crummy gas mileage on a long trip. Anyway, I took out the glove box to get to the relay, so I could check it out, except...it's not where it's supposed to be. There's no orange relay in the left corner behind the vents. Where else might it be? I tried to take out the rest of the front console panel off, but I couldn't figure out how to get the radio out, since it's mounted at the bottom. In '83 it should still have the orange relay, no? Is there another color aftermarket relay I should look for? Also, I want to eventually convert this to an M47 transmission (I much prefer a manual, and I'm very much over the electronic overdrive arrangement, so no M46), and while I know I'll need a new differential, will I also have to replace the driveshaft?

Wes
