strut nut tool 200 1992

yeah, i've seen the Volvo preferred tool..
The one that IPD sells...
and the various welders specialty mockups...
But i got to thinking... with my limited tool range i've started doing this:

I went to a pawn shop and rummaged thru all the sockets they had in this LARGE bin. Found a 24mm for $0.35. I took my grinder to it and at the top end i wore out a flat surface on both sides then notched it a few times. Attached my vise grips to the notches and now i have a usable strut nut tool.
My strut inserts took a 8mm Allen wrench that used vise grips on as well.

Tim

P.S. oh, yeah and the whole Impact Wrench Idea is a farce. i've blown two NEW strut cartridges just from the spinning effect. turns out from a lil' research asking at some suspension specialty shops that the heat generated from the valve plunger can warp/bore out the inner tube of the shock... you've been warned.
