Progress and a question 444-544 1958

Hi all, I have been installing trim after the new paint job (Califorina White) on my 444 and have a question regarding the "rock guards".
These are the rubber items that go on the lower front of the rear fenders. The fenders have a series of holes that small rubber cone shapes on the back of the parts go into. My question is for anyone that has installed these items - are there any tricks or tips that you could share with me for easier installation?
It looks like these might be a bit difficult to get on, I was thinking maybe a dish soap solution or some other sort of lubricant might help.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers!
