240 seat foam interchangeability. From my '84 to my '88? Will it work? 200 1988

Hi guys. Back to the well for more help. The '88 I am restoring has nice blue upholstery with no rips and very little wear. But the foam on the driver's side is shot to the point that the metal frame on the right has come thru the foam. There is very little support on the left anymore either. However, the '84 242 that I use for parts now (used to drive) has nice foam on the passenger side, seat and back. Can I take the old ripped leather off that foam, remove the foam and put in on my '88 driver's side frame without a lot of modification? I can't spring for the new IPD foam ($300+ plus shipping) AND buy gas to drive it. Will this work or have the frames and foam changed since '84? All ideas are welcome. And thanks ahead of time.
