There's usually only one flange on cast metal bracket that surrounds the transmission mount; and this flange should be bolted to the aft end of the transmission. Assuming you have the correct transmission for your '65. If we're talking about the same flange, and it's pointed toward the rear axle, then it isn't connected to the transmission and thus, isn't doing its job.

The 210 transmission mounting was slightly different, so there's a chance that your car has been fitted with a piece from one of those.

If you could post a picture of the thing, I'm sure someone on the board could ID it.

There are also parts catalogs available online that show nearly every piece of the car.
