BG,
I'm glad that you feel the same way, and yes, my wife fully recovered from the crash, but it has taken a very long time and a lot of work on her part. The good Lord smiled upon us that day, and in our mind helped save her life and allowed her to fully recover.
I once felt very negatively about air bags back in the 80s while seeing them as another overpriced unnecessary cost if you wear your seat belt! Over the years, I've seen the results of no-air-bag crashes and have learned as a result, ie, they don't only help when the driver isn't wearing a seat belt!
Between the age of 16 and 20, I probably crashed more cars than "Spanky Spangler" has over his entire career, that being said, I walked away from each of them but in two of the crashes, I made it about five feet before I passed out. I was lucky, during that time I spent less than a year in the hospital recovering, so if you wonder why I embrace airbag technology now, perhaps you can understand my reasoning!
Beyond air bags and SIPS, there are far more technologies to keep us alive and more importantly, avoid the impact in the first place! This is the realm that Volvo lives in, and when they come up with a new safety technology, they don't have a problem with licensing it to other manufacturers for reasonable pricing. This is called smart thinking by a major automotive manufacturer, my hat is off to Volvo!
I know, long-winded as always on this subject....
