Is this part of the Mojo ? 200 1982

Just did my first pan replacement & oil pump change.Worked 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. today.Had my balls in my mouth as I had never done this before.Still have to re-install P/S h& hardware,Brake lines etc.I will do this tomorrow.
AS part of the job I detached the exhaust at the exhaust manifold as I was raising the engine.
To make a long story short, the gasket was no good & I have an exhaust leak. This should be the extent of anything going wrong as the operation was a total success ! Got better oil pressure & replaced the pan with the stripped threads.
But is this part of the Zen & the art of Volvo maintainance ?
Is my car is doomed to forever be a work in progress ?
Car is an '82 244DL 4spd+OD with 181,345 miles that I have owned for the past 17 years.Car had 55,800 miles when I bought it.
