sluggish after a warm day 700

My 1991 745 B230F was driving like the proverbial old dog yesterday, after a day of temps around 80F. I was getting a bit nervous with the kids in the car that I would have to pull ahead of someone and not be able to do it. Going up a steep hill I had to put the auto transmission in 2nd gear and it was still a struggle. The only tune-up oriented thing I have done is to change the plugs last summer. Besides following the usual tune-up procedure, what do you folks recommend?

Thanks.
