After market radio - installation question 700 1987

I have damaged one of the two din connectors that fit the back of my sons radio. When I in reconnected the radio it plays but has no power. The bad din plug provided power to an amp/equalizer (stock) that was removed. The volume is barely audible at the highest setting. Needless to say a teenager needs his radio. Repairing the round din plug is not an option. Will an after market radio work in this situation? The back of my stock volvo radio has two imputs for the round din plug ins and I only have one that works - not enough power is being delivered to the radio to get any volume. thanks
