VDO temp sensor in a B18/B20. 120-130

I was looking at a damaged smiths electric sensor I pulled from my B20E, thinking about how to re-attach the terminal spade. While looking for a donor spade, I noticed that the VDO temp sensor I removed from my 1986 745 GLE's cast aluminum head had a similar thread pattern (although there are fewer threads).

So, I tried the VDO sensor in a spare B18 head and found that the threads match well enough and the that the newer (and presumably both cheaper and more reliable) VDO sensor fits into the B18 head.

SO... did I just get lucky with the fit? Do all of you know this already? Will this VDO sensor work if I do the 240/120 electrical temperature gauge conversion project?
