Replacement for faulty tailgate brake/wiper harness? 700 1992

I've been troubled by a particularly annoying tailgate electrical gremlin on my 1992 745: intermittant & usually inter-related semi-functioning of center brake light (occasionally stays on when NOT braking, goes off when braking), rear wiper (sluggish or non-movement), and license plate lighting -- sometimes fixed (temporarily) with a few slams of the tailgate.

Upon further investigation, I discovered the culprit: a wonky, partially burnt-out wiring harness (yellow) deep inside the bowels of the tailgate. A little jiggering of the connection gets everything to work OK, but only temporarily.

So the question is -- is it possible to cut out the offending harness and install a replacement? Where does one find such a replacement harness? I note that 240s seem to suffer from this kind of problem, but this is a 740...

Thanks,
Peter
