1993 240 IPD Temp board bypass kit installed, not working as I hoped 200 1993

So I bought the kit, installed it. Warmed up the car and the needle still sticks at the bottom, only rising ever so slightly. No weird fluctuations or better yet, sticking to the 9 o clock position. The instructions recommended that I check the yellow wire under the intake manifold that connects to the temperature sensor. I took an alligator jumper, and grounded it and saw that the temp needle shot up to the red.

So what are some solutions to getting my car's temp gauge to read properly. The IPD instructions also suggest that I splice a new wire from the yellow wire and connect it to the "large gray connector on the firewall". Where is this large gray connector located? Thanks.
