Looking into a 242 200

Hey guys,

Just signed up to this great site and I have some questions.

I'm looking for a 242 cause I love the look of those coupes. I'm new to car repair, but I've heard the 240 is both reliable and easy to work on, which sounds like a good training car. I'll have alternate mode of transportation so this would be a semi-project and semi-commuter car.

I was wondering, though, how hard and expensive is it to get parts for these things? Also, how difficult is it to find coupes?

As for models, I couldn't find much info on the different model years except there were new, better engines after 1985. What were the benefits of those engines? When were the cosmetic changes done to the 240s? I really like the look of the early 1980s ones, but I wasn't sure if all the Model years looked just like it.

Finally, I see a lot of them for perfect beater prices of less than $2k. Some much less than that. For a 240 in that price range is it going to have a lot of problems? How much could I get a well running, well maintained one for?

Thanks guys!
