Electric window won't budge -- most times. 200 1992

Hi. 240 Wagon, 1992. Front passenger-side electric window won't budge -- usually. When pressing both switches at once from the driver's side, out of habit,I am very occasionally surprised that the window responds, going down a bit, going back up a bit, then stopping at its usual dead state. All four window switches from the main driver's side console test as working, pointing the problem uniquely to the front passenger side(right?). For winter, the mechanic took door apart and raised the window the 2" it had stubbornly stopped at. I was told it needs a new motor. However, since it will SOMETIMES respond (and I mean, hardly ever), could it be something other than the motor? Now that the warm weather's back, that window again becomes important. Thanks for any help. Hoping for a simple (read "cheap") fix.
