'93 240 Evaporator same as used in 134a retrofit kit? 200 1989

I know that in '91 Volvo went to an improved evaporator in the 240-series cars and in '93 changed over to r134a refridgerant.

Volvo also offers a 134a conversion kit to convert from R-12.

Is there a difference between the evaporator supplied by Volvo in the retrofit kits vs. the evaporators supplied in the '91-'93 model cars?

I'm wondering if an evaporator from a junker that had working a/c could be fitted into an older 240, or is the space for the evaporator in the combined heater-a/c unit in the dash a different size (larger) for the post '91-model cars?

I've read here that simply replacing the tube and fin condensor with the latter-style consensor does wonders and am wondering if I convert over if it is really necessary to change out the evaporator as well.

Thanks!
