ATF compatibility? 700 1987

Hi guys and gals,

Just wondering: I have some Castrol Import ATF that claims to be OK for any transmission under the sun, and backward-compatible with Dexron III and II. My AW70L likes DexIII, according to Volvo. For my flush I used Coastal DexMerc. Would it be wise to 'top off' when necessary with this Castrol stuff, or just stick to the explicitly labeled DexIII? I think the Castrol is a semi-synthetic.

Ari

PS - I by no means meant to imply that I have ever needed to top off. I have no leaks, as far as I know.
