240 Temperature Gauge 200

I have 93 240 sedan with 110k miles on it.

The cooling system has never let me down. I put in a Nissens radiator about 6 years ago; I flushed the radiator and replaced the thermastat within the last 6 months and 3k miles.

The temprature here is DC this morning was about 80 degrees. I had run the car for a few miles around 30 miles an hour when I noticed that the temperature gauge was almost in the red (about one needle width from the red). I pulled over, turned off the engine, and popped the hood. When I put my hand close to the radiator and the valve cover, the temperature seemed normal.

After 3 minutes max of looking around under the hood, I started the car and the needle went to the 9 O'Clock position and stayed there.

I know that the control board is a problem in the 240's.

Here is my question: does turning the car off somehow reset the control board so that it operates correctly?
