The vehicle speed signal does feed the ECU but is only used for the upshift light on the standard shift cars, not relevent to the problem. The crank position sensor has a fault code that refers to engine rpm signal, crank position signal is same as rpm signal. That is the sensor above the flywheel. If that pulse is not present engine will stop, tach will go to zero as it also is used for the tach signal.
