1991 244 weird problems 200 1991

Need help! My 1991 244 (automatic, non-turbo) is having some major problems. If I don't figure this one out my other half is going to send it out to pasture.

A few days ago after about 30 miles of driving, the car started losing power and bucking/hesitating. Pulled over and put pedal near to floor-car would not move. Then it stalled. Would not restart. After a few minutes of rest, it restarted and drove for another few miles. This went on for the remainder of the drive home. Left car to sit overnight and it was fine the next day, but I didn't drive it much.

Today, drove 60 miles to work, car ran great. Still it's normal quiet idle etc.
On the drive home, after about 50 miles, same problem. Let it sit for a few, restarted and made it home. Not sure if weather is an issue, but it has been in the 90s here the past few days. Temp gauge not going above its normal running area.

I'm to the point where I'm afraid to drive it because this may be a prelude to a tow truck ride. Not really happy about having to drive the F150 that gets about 13 miles per gallon downhill. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
