Suspension bushings and repair stuff 700 1987

Hi folks,

I'm feeling ambitious and want to do some of my needed suspension work myself. I need some advice! I've been reading the FAQ and am confused.

My car just turned 250k this week. I have been under my car looking at the suspension, and it looks worn out - cracked bushings, a broken bolt end on one side, and the rear makes a pop when I brake after moving in reverse. The steering pulls to the right, but that may be due to an out-of-round rim.

I probably need new ball joints, as well as all bushings. I'm a strong young man with a good toolbox and a lean wallet, so... what all can I do myself here (safely!), and what do you guys think is worth taking to the mechanic?

FYI I do all my work on my side lawn.

Thanks!

Ari

EDIT: Is aftermarket a safe choice here?
