Dunno about that model, but most winders are the same. My 245 winder let fly (in the winter, wouldn't you know), so i took it out and found that the pivot at the center was in tough shape, letting it sag, eventually failing altogether.

Sounds like you might want to take the whole show apart and make sure that ALL the pivots, guides (in particular), etc are where they are supposed to be. After rebuilding mine, it works just like new
