I have a 92 245 Automatic that had been sitting for 1-1/2 years. It was running OK for me and I've been working on getting it prepped for the inevitable emmissions inspection (fluids, filters, sparkplugs, etc). This past week it starting getting a little hard to start when warm - sitting for only an hour. Then it refused to start at all after sitting one hour. Turning over but not firing. I let it cool overnight but still nothing. Then I realized another symptom was the CHECK ENGINE light was not lighting when turning the key to ON. (All the other dash lights checked ON ok) I tried to check the OBD codes, but the LED was on steady when I pushed the test button and never did respond with any codes - not even 1-1-1.
So I tried a wild shot and disconnected the battery cable and let things reset.
After reconnecting, the CHECK ENGINE light worked as it should and I got a 1-1-1 out of the OBD. SO I turned the key and she cranked. Yeah!
Then after about 45 minutes of driving and one stop, it wouldn't restart again. I tried the battery cable trick but got nothing. I assumed it was the same "warm" condition affecting some part of the injection control, so I let it sit again several hours. Same routine - battery disconnect, CHECK ENGINE comes on, and she cranks! But it didn't last. After less than a minute of running, it stalled out. Now once again, no CHECK ENGINE and no cranking. I tried disconnecting some inputs to the system, such as the AMM connector and the O2 sensor wire. Neither had any effect.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if either the AMM or the O2 are bad, I'm starting to think the ECU itself could be bad. And I say that because of the steady LED light on the OBD and no codes blinking out of it.
Any thoughts?
