Coolant level question 700 1991

On my '87 740GLE, I recently put the 'black cap' on my expansion tank, since I figured that my leaky heater core might be much happier with a lower coolant pressure. I have found that my car operates a hair cooler, too. No problems with boilover or anything.

I hate to say it, but to my uneducated eyes it seems like you may have a compromised head gasket. Unless you fill the coolant way over the max line, it shouldn't leak out. And you're right, antifreeze expands when hot.
