Can OD be Bypassed Internally ?? 700 1988

1988 740GLE wagon auto AW70L tranny. 1st I should say that I never ever use overdrive. My overdrive sometimes goes off(yellow light on on dash)and then back on(yellow light off) intermittingly. Problem is electrical wiring inside. Think it is wires inside shift lever as when I play with it then my overdrive returns. So question is can I electrically overide overdrive from within car? Was thinking that maybe below shift lever where I can get at the 2x wires inside lever I can connect the two. Would this work ? Or would I be better off overiding elsewhere ? I do not want to bother with IPD OD bypass plate. Seems as my electric is good below that it would be easiest to bypass on the inside. Thanks for advice/help with this.
